Quentin Dupieux a.k.a. Mr. Oizo has a knack for breaking molds. The producer’s constant innovation over the last 20 years has cemented him as a closely-guarded secret – one that has started to leak into mainstream electronic consciousness.
All Wet is but another morceau of psychedelic chirping in Mr. Oizo’s arsenal. Starting strong with “OK Then” and “Sea Horses,” Dupieux opens his oeuvre with a sleazy seminar on the archetypal funk-laden French house sound. “Freezing Out,” featuring Canadian sex-siren Peaches, is a jarring departure from convention, a footwork-accented dubstep ode to vaginas. From then onward, Dupieux takes listeners on a veritable rollercoaster of sonic exploration. Standout dancefloor-ready tracks like “Ruhe,” “All Wet” and “Low Ink” clash with the bare noise of “Chairs” and “Useless” in a beautiful chaos best consumed as an album, not a shuffled mess of singles.
Where Mr. Oizo’s sound was once too-future, votes of confidence from creative luminaries like Boys Noize, Charli XCX, and even Skrillex, are a resonating “fuck you” to the pandering, safe trend that electronic music has been invaded by as of late. Ultimately, Dupieux’s latest work is an unapologetic tapestry of intriguing tidbits. While few of its tracks fit the conventional definition of music, the impression is that Mr. Oizo never intended for them to be. All Wet, then, is a challenging, but rewarding listen for the open-minded.
Tim Hecker's latest work approaches a form of secular musical transcendentalism from within the battered temple of spirituality. Recorded in a church in Reykjavik, Iceland and using a pipe organ as the primary sound source, this new piece is essentially a live recording.
In reality, it exists in a nether world between captured live performance and meticulous studio work, melding the two approaches to sonic artifice as a unity.
It is in parts a document of air circulating within a wooden room, and also a pagan work of physical resonance within a space once reserved for the hallowed breath of the divine.
While the title of the piece "Hatred of Music" might be a clue, the album is also partly an attempt to confront a pervasive negativity surrounding music. Historical rituals of destroying pianos, mountains of pirated CDRs pushed by bulldozers in Eastern Europe, or the melancholy of the digital music era began as sideline motifs which quickly informed the work on this record.
They also really didn't at all. Despite that the context is wide open in such a form of musical abstraction, the substance of these immersive compositions showcases Hecker's continued mastery of organizing sound into a visceral near entity. It is an almost physical presence that the listener feels as much as hears. This work is a significant contribution to Hecker's oeuvre, one which spans over ten years of musical production.
Ravedeath, 1972 is an enigmatic document of beauty and force. The album was recorded mostly over the period of one day in July of 2010.
Iceland-based musician Ben Frost assisted with the engineering and performs on this recording.

The meeting of Tim Hecker and Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never at his Software Studio yields an otherworldly and near symphonic suite apparently conducted "…to mimic the tropes and techniques of jazz-based improvisation, with little preparation prior", effecting a wide-eyed and fascinating sound as dramatic and enchanting as any we've heard this year.
As you'd expect from a Tim Hecker record, the sense of diffuse, layered, analog-treated and digitally simulated space is just incredible, and paired with both his and Lopatin's feel for cinematic, heart-rending melody and complex harmonics 'Instrumental Tourist' is an impressive piece of work by any standards.
'Since I Left You' is the stunning debut album by The Avalanches, released on 27 November 2000. Packed with over 600 samples of recordings dating from the 1950's to the present (each one credited in the liner notes!) as well as original instrumentation, 'Since I Left You' is a charming, witty pastiche of mashed up samples, beats, bangs, and bobs.... truly a breakthrough in the world of dance music. Their everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach is exemplified by their debut single, 'Since I Left You', which opens the record with its wistful disco-samba shuffle and a scintillating sliced-and-diced soul vocal.
The album is constructed like a mix tape and calculated to tweak the dance floor. Snatches of familiar rhythms bubble up throughout, giving the record a comfortable lived-in feel, but also betraying the fact that the group haven't dug very far through the crates to source their raw material. Vast chunks of records by Madonna, Art of Noise, Kid Creole And The Coconuts and Parisian hip-hoppers Saian Supa Crew are easily identifiable.
2LP - 180 Gram double Vinyl set. First time on vinyl in years.
Thick sleeves thick printed inner sleeves Coloured 180g vinyl free download code! 2016 Reissue of "Mutations" - the second work of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble from 2009.
Not existing anymore since 2012 The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble now finally makes all long-time sold out releases available again on all formats (cd | vinyl | digital).
The series of reissues starts with their genre-determining second output "Mutations". An act combining profound musical sensibilities, deeply emotional harmonies and an acute ear for genre inter-breeding, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble placed itself and the confluent of dusty, gritty jazz and low-end doom-laden drones, and came up with a sound which is at the same time warm and dark, brooding and misty, cinematic and dynamic.
The german instrumental duo SANT OTTEN already teamed up for building the first walls of sound in 1999.
Since then they released 4 albums and several eps together. In 2009 they joined Denovali Records to realize their 4th length "Morgen Wieder Lustig" followed by a split record with MAJEURE - the solo project of A.E.
PATERRA from ZOMBI (relapse records) - in 2010. With "Fast neu ist auch gebraucht" the full length includes an homage to the old Krautrock heroes NEU! just as a ROBERT FRIPP influenced 13 minutes monster piece like the title track Gottes Synthesizer.
Other songs ("Die Welt ist ja nicht zum aushalten" or "ich verlasse mich selbst") are rather influenced by STEPHAN OTTEN's energetic electric drums.
Mellow epic ambient hymns like "Wir sind deine Propheten" or "Das Ende vom Lied" are their great instrument to create a connection between specific soundscapes to make a coherent album out of the single tracks.
The main excellence of this full length is that SANKT OTTEN are combining influences of an old genre with elements of today's music to a new interesting mixture.
The vinyl comes as a thick 180g gatefold version - the cd in nice digipaks. FOR FANS OF KLAUS SCHULZE, ZOMBI, BRIAN ENO or KRAUTROCK in general.
Divertissement is the third collaborative full length from minimalist composer William Basinski and sound artist Richard Chartier. The duo utilize electronics, piano, tape-loops and short wave radio to evoke a dense atmosphere suggesting hundreds of years of history rising up from the depths of a reverberating cathedral. Subtle, buried and intense murmurs of melody morph through this deeply consuming and slowly evolving composition in two parts.
'Wars Of The Roses', Ulver’s eighth album released originally in 2011, saw the band being highly influenced by progressive rock music, whilst also incorporating elements of ambient, post-rock, and spoken word.
The dubstep artist follows his critically acclaimed debut with the even richer, more complex, and more enveloping Untrue, a record of reverb-heavy and mournful songs that feel almost like beautiful secrets being whispered to a listener.
This is Biosphere's first truly ambient album, and has a theme of cold, of mountains and glaciers and running water. Sounds of howling wind and creaking wood, although infrequently employed, create a chilling soundscape interrupted by sonorous but quietly suspenseful music.
